 Appointment of Guardian for minors under 18 years of age

Reason: Child receives monetary awards, i.e.
1.) settlements from court cases
2.) beneficiary in an estate settlement
3.) beneficiary in a life insurance settlement
4.) may be necessary in some instances if child lives with grandparents
5.) may be necessary if child lives with someone other than parent

Where: County Commission office - 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or Thursday evening by appointment

Cost: $25.00 - appointment and administration, $18.00 - recording documents

Documents required: Birth Certificate, childs social security number, and bond equal to the amount of the child's settlement. Child over 14 must be present during appointments to sign consent. Assets of minor must be properly invested and managed according to law. They will be monitored until the child reaches 18 years of age at which time a settlement and release will be transacted.
